Feature30-goal seasons: Mohamed Salah brings up 30th entry in LFC history

The Egyptian reached the landmark figure for the fifth time in his Reds career when he scored the opener in Sunday’s 2-0 Premier League win at Manchester City.

He had previously hit the 30 mark in his debut season of 2017-18, then in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23, and went on to end those campaigns with respective tallies of 44, 31, 31 and 30.

Salah has thereby emulated the only two men who remain above him on Liverpool’s all-time top scorers list, Roger Hunt and Ian Rush, who each reached 30 goals in a campaign five times while representing the club.

The three also exclusively share the feat of achieving 40 strikes in one season with the Reds, with Hunt tallying 42 in 1961-62 and Rush doing so twice, with 40 in 1986-87 and the club-record haul of 47 during 1983-84.

Four other players have managed 30-goal seasons on multiple occasions at Liverpool.

Gordon Hodgson did so with 32 in 1928-29 and then 36 two seasons later, while Billy Liddell followed suit with 31 in 1954-55 and 32 the next campaign.

In more recent years, Robbie Fowler surpassed the 30 mark in three consecutive years – racking up 31 in 1994-95, 36 in 1995-96 and 31 again in 1996-97 – and Luis Suarez did it in both 2012-13 (30) and 2013-14 (31).

Sam Raybould was the first ever to achieve it for Liverpool when he plundered 32 goals during 1902-03, and Jack Parkinson quickly became the second with 30 strikes in 1909-10.

And four other men also added their names to this particular list once apiece subsequently: John Evans with 33 in 1954-55, Kenny Dalglish with 31 in 1977-78, John Aldridge with 31 in 1988-89, and Fernando Torres with 33 in 2007-08.

Salah’s 2024-25 total is tracking similarly to that of his first season with the Reds. Then, goal No.30 came in his 36th appearance of the season. This term, it was in his 38th game.
