Stig Inge Bjornebye scored the winning goal in the Norwegian Cup final and the next day Graeme Souness was on the phone offering him a contract with Liverpool - a couple of days that changed his life in an instant.
Bjornebye struggled with life in the Premier League in the first two seasons but his breakthrough came in the 1994-95 campaign.
Unfortunately, he suffered a broken leg reaching for a cross while his studs got caught in the grass, when playing against Southampton in April 1995.
He only played two games in the 1995-96 season but his career hit peak form in 1996-97 when the team finally mounted a serious assault on the title, failing in the last stages.
Bjornebye got down the wing and delivered pinpoint passes into the penalty area, providing plenty of goals for the likes of Robbie Fowler and Stan Collymore.
The defender became one of the first departures of the Gerard Houllier era. He was loaned out to Brondby during the last months of the 1999-2000 season before being sold to Blackburn Rovers in the summer, reuniting with Souness.
