Liverpool won the race to sign promising England U21 goalkeeper Scott Carson in January 2005.
He was Jerzy Dudek's understudy, but his quest to be the Reds' No.1 became considerably more complicated with the arrival of Pepe Reina in July 2005.
After only nine games in two years, including a great performance in the quarter-final against Juventus at Anfield in the Champions League-winning 2004-05 season, he left on loan to Charlton Athletic, where he impressed even though the club were relegated.
Carson was on loan at Aston Villa through the 2007-08 season and while impressing there, Villa didn't take up the option to sign him.
Instead, Premier League newcomers West Bromwich Albion recruited him in the summer of 2008.
