Right-back Philipp Degen was signed by Rafael Benitez on a free transfer in the summer of 2008 but was unable to make any impact at Liverpool.
Despite representing his country, Switzerland, Degen never looked comfortable in the Premier League and had his contract terminated by mutual consent in August 2011 after spending the previous season on loan at VfB Stuttgart.
He made 13 appearances for the Reds in between, the first of which came against Crewe Alexandra in the League Cup on September 23, 2008.
