With the Reds suffering an injury crisis in defence due to long-term injuries sustained by Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk, in February 2021 a deal was agreed with Schalke 04 for the 20-year-old Kabak's services.

Kabak went on to make 13 appearances, helping Jürgen Klopp's side finish third in the Premier League and reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
