The unsung hero of Liverpool's 1986 FA Cup-winning team, midfielder Kevin MacDonald arrived at Anfield halfway through the 1984-85 season.
Graeme Souness left a huge space in the Reds midfield when he left for Italy and the former Leicester City captain MacDonald helped fill the void.
He managed to get a run in the side in the second half of his first season and featured from time to time during the following double-winning campaign. He hit form at the right time to win a place in the first XI that defeated Everton at Wembley in the 1986 FA Cup final.
Disaster sadly struck for MacDonald in September 1986 at the Dell, when after coming on as a substitute against Southampton he broke his leg.
MacDonald faced a lengthy lay-off and he returned as a substitute towards the title run-in in the 1987-88 season.
He started the 1988-89 season in the first-team frame but then returned to Leicester on loan and had another loan spell in Glasgow with Rangers, before being signed permanently by Coventry City, where he played 44 games in two seasons.
