Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey arrived at Liverpool in 2010 from Charlton Athletic amid exciting comparisons to a young Steven Gerrard.
The Londoner never quite managed to reach those heights during his three-year spell with the Reds, which was nevertheless punctuated by several memorable moments before he departed for Swansea City.
Shelvey made his club debut as a late substitute in a disappointing League Cup defeat by lowly Northampton Town in September 2010.
His maiden campaign consisted largely of appearances from the bench and he was loaned to Blackpool at the outset of the next season to gain experience at Championship level.
An impressive run of form beside the seaside brought six goals in 10 league matches and his performances clearly caught the eye of Kenny Dalglish, who regularly named Shelvey in his matchday squads upon his return.
He was rewarded with a maiden Premier League start at Aston Villa in December 2011, then bagged his first Reds goal the following month in an FA Cup clash with Oldham Athletic.
Shelvey played no part in either the League Cup or FA Cup finals but capped a progressive campaign with a long-range strike during the 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea in the penultimate game of the season.
His future looked bright after the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as manager in the summer of 2012 and he was handed a fresh, long-term deal in July of that year.
He kicked off the new season in Rodgers' first-team plans until a rash challenge in the September meeting with Manchester United prompted a red card and domestic suspension.
Shelvey boosted his reputation, though, with series of promising Europa League performances - a brace at Young Boys before goals at home against Udinese and the Swiss outfit.
His final meaningful contribution for Liverpool came with a close-range winner at West Ham United two months later, but his opportunities dwindled dramatically during the second half of the season.
Rodgers further restructured his midfield options in the summer of 2013 and Shelvey was allowed to leave, sealing a switch to Welsh side Swansea.
