Make lists of the toughest tacklers, fiercest shooters and hardest workers in Liverpool history and Jimmy Case would feature on each of them; the right-sided midfielder had everything required to succeed at Anfield.
The Englishman was famed for a ferocious driven shot that brought 46 goals during his time with the Reds. "I get the balls out down there when the lads go away and get back to the basic things," he said in an attempt to explain his joy from distance.
Having joined the club from South Liverpool and non-league football, Case made his debut appearance against Queens Park Rangers in April 1975 and blossomed throughout the 1975-76 campaign that followed.
He was a regular on the right of Bob Paisley's team and claimed a league championship medal plus success in the UEFA Cup; the midfielder smashed home 12 goals overall, including five vital strikes in European competition.
The trophies just kept coming for the local lad, who was loved by the Kop faithful for his commitment and powerful shooting – proven by his sumptuous strike against Manchester United in the 1977 FA Cup final.
The Reds lost that particular showpiece but Case completed the season with two more medals to add to his collection; a second league title followed and Paisley masterminded maiden European Cup glory.
With Paisley's men seemingly unstoppable at home and abroad, Case barely missed a match and by the end of the decade had lifted another European Cup and two more league championships.
New competition provided by fellow Scouser Sammy Lee challenged Case's dominance of the right wing during 1980-81 but he started the League Cup final replay victory over West Ham United and was introduced as a late substitute in the European Cup final.
After 269 matches, 46 goals and 10 major trophies, his time at Anfield ended in the summer of 1981 as a switch south to Brighton & Hove Albion was finalised.
