Fabio Borini spent three years as a Liverpool player after arriving at Anfield from AS Roma as an exciting young forward in July 2012.

The deal reunited the Italian with Brendan Rodgers, with whom the attacker had previously worked during spells at Chelsea and Swansea City.

Borini had progressed through the ranks at Stamford Bridge before helping Rodgers and Swansea reach the Premier League courtesy of a productive loan move to Wales.

A return to his homeland subsequently beckoned and Borini starred for Roma, scoring nine goals in 20 league starts - form that earned the striker a spot in Italy's squad for Euro 2012.

The Azzurri were runners-up at the tournament but that disappointment was balanced by the news he was to become the first signing of Rodgers' Reds reign.

His debut came in a Europa League qualifier at Gomel and a first goal for the club was registered in the return leg at Anfield against the opponents from Belarus.

Borini's maiden campaign was beset by two significant injuries, though he returned in the final weeks of 2012-13 and opened his Premier League account as a substitute at Newcastle United.

The Italian spent the entirety of the next season on loan at Sunderland, thriving with 10 goals as the Black Cats reached the League Cup final - in which he scored - and avoided relegation.

Borini chose to come back to Anfield and fight for a place in the side, but was restricted to 18 appearances throughout 2014-15. That summer, he sealed a return to Sunderland on a permanent basis.
