Christian Benteke scored 10 goals in 42 games during his single season as a Liverpool striker.

The Belgium international was brought to Anfield by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2015, having spent the previous three years bullying Premier League defences.

He had made a habit of scoring against the Reds too, hitting the net five times in six meetings with the club – including an FA Cup semi-final strike at Wembley – before making the move to Merseyside from Aston Villa.

Benteke was the match-winner for Liverpool on his Anfield debut against AFC Bournemouth and volleyed in a stunning Goal of the Season contender at Old Trafford the following month.

As Jürgen Klopp took over the managerial reins from Rodgers, the No.9 initially maintained a place in the team and was on target against Southampton and in a thrilling 3-1 away win over Chelsea.

But his early-season form began to falter and games and goals were soon harder to come by as Daniel Sturridge returned to match fitness and Roberto Firmino showed his ability to operate as a central forward.

Benteke was a late substitute in the 2016 Europa League final defeat by Sevilla in Basel – and that proved to be his last appearance for the Reds as he completed a switch to Crystal Palace that summer.
