Bruno Cheyrou came with good credentials, but he struggled to make an impression at Liverpool.

<p>The Frenchman was hailed as "the new Zidane" by Gerard Houllier when he announced his capture in 2002 and he made a superb debut in a pre-season friendly against Lazio at Anfield.</p><p>He was played on the left side of midfield by Houllier and found it tough to cement a regular place in the team, though.</p><p>Cheyrou will be best remembered for the goal that brought a rare league victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in January 2004 and his two goals against Newcastle United in the FA Cup later that same month.</p><p>He was loaned out to Marseille by Rafael Benitez and then Bordeaux with the prospect of making it a permanent transfer, but it was Rennes who eventually took the plunge and signed him in 2006.</p>
