Bruno Cheyrou came with good credentials, but he struggled to make an impression at Liverpool.

The Frenchman was hailed as "the new Zidane" by Gerard Houllier when he announced his capture in 2002 and he made a superb debut in a pre-season friendly against Lazio at Anfield.

He was played on the left side of midfield by Houllier and found it tough to cement a regular place in the team, though.

Cheyrou will be best remembered for the goal that brought a rare league victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in January 2004 and his two goals against Newcastle United in the FA Cup later that same month.

He was loaned out to Marseille by Rafael Benitez and then Bordeaux with the prospect of making it a permanent transfer, but it was Rennes who eventually took the plunge and signed him in 2006.
