Andrew Hannah was a great all-round athlete who won prizes at the Highland Games.

Hannah starred as Everton's captain from 1889 to 1891, winning the league championship in 1891, and rated as one of the best full-backs in the country.

It is quite curious why he decided to leave champions Everton and return to his hometown in Scotland for his third spell with Renton, who were founder members of the Scottish League.

Hannah was then Liverpool's first captain and one of the 11 men who represented the club in their first-ever Football League fixture on September 2, 1893.

He played in 24 of the 28 matches that year and won a Second Division championship medal, but also experienced relegation a year later when he shared the right-back spot with John Curran.
