<p>The Italy international was brought to Anfield by Rafael Benitez in August 2009 following the departure of <a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/xabi-alonso"><strong>Xabi Alonso</strong></a> to Real Madrid.</p><p>Wearing No.4, Aquilani made his Reds bow as a substitute in the League Cup fourth-round clash at Arsenal on October 28, 2009.</p><p>He would score two goals in his debut season but his Anfield career never really took off.</p><p>Aquilani spent the seasons that followed on loan at Juventus and AC Milan before completing a permanent move to Fiorentina.</p>
