Les Reds ont connu un début de vie encourageant sous la direction d'Arne Slot, remportant neuf des 10 premiers matches de l'entraîneur-chef aux commandes, toutes compétitions confondues.

L'équipe de Slot occupe actuellement la tête de la Premier League et a cumulé six points lors de ses deux premiers matches de Ligue des Champions. Elle poursuit également sa défense du trophée de la Carabao Cup en battant West Ham United 5-1 au troisième round.

La rencontre de dimanche avec Chelsea à Anfield marque la reprise de la campagne du club après la trêve internationale d'octobre et, en ce qui concerne les objectifs à long terme de Liverpool, Gakpo a déclaré à Sky Sports : « J'espère que nous pourrons tout gagner !

« C'est le début de la saison, nous participons à toutes les compétitions et lorsque vous participez à une compétition, vous participez pour gagner. C'est donc notre objectif et je pense que la saison dernière, nous avons montré que nous étions capables de le faire.

« Nous étions très proches de beaucoup de choses, mais oui, nous l'avons raté un peu au final. Mais cela nous donne aussi de l'espoir et de la force pour cette saison, car nous savons que nous pouvons aller aussi loin. Cette année, nous allons donc aller encore plus loin.

« Nous avons un bon groupe, beaucoup de qualité et nous nous connaissons depuis un peu plus longtemps maintenant, donc oui, toutes ces choses nous aident. »

The appointment of Slot in the summer following Jürgen Klopp’s reign of almost nine years commenced a new era for Liverpool, of course.

Gakpo has since appeared in all of the boss’ games in charge to date and laid on the assist for Diogo Jota in a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace last time out.

On whether he enjoys the challenges that come with change, he replied: “I like adapting to different things because that makes a person grow in every aspect of his life. So, yeah, I like that, to be fair.

“So then we have to grow, we are forced to grow, we are forced to learn new things and getting out of your own comfort zone. As I said, I think every person will grow at that point, so I think it’s good.

“Obviously we have a new manager in, so that’s a change. Some things changed inside the club as well, so that’s a change as well. The way we train, the way we play is a little bit different. So, we all have to adapt and I think it’s going to make us better as a team and as a club.”

The Netherlands international was also asked about You’ll Never Walk Alone and, approaching the two-year anniversary of his signing for the club, how the anthem continues to impact him.

“When everybody is singing it and you are making yourself ready for the game, you are on the pitch and everybody is singing the song… I don’t know why but it’s just an amazing song,” said Gakpo.

“With amazing fans, in an amazing stadium. It always gives you goosebumps.

“What it means to me is it feels like everybody is always having your back at the club. Inside the club but also the fans, no matter what.

“That makes all the players go that one extra mile or a little bit more percentage that we can give every game. So, they are really helping us.”
