The LFC Foundation's Red Neighbours Programme hosted a day full of insight, information and positivity.

On Friday, September 13th 2024, The LFC Foundation’s Red Neighbours program hosted a suicide prevention event at Anfield Sports and Community Centre. Ran by Bill Bygroves, LFC Club Chaplin, the attendees consisted of members in the community who participate in Walking Football, Walking Netball, and Military Veterans.

There were activities, moments of reflection and fantastic talks from guest speakers: Chris Kirkland, former LFC goalkeeper and LFC Foundation ambassador spoke about his journey through football, battles with mental health, the importance of reaching out for help and how he lives a healthier lifestyle now.

Paul Wright from Tom Harrison House, a residential programme in Anfield, L4, for UK Armed Forces veterans and emergency services personnel who struggle with alcohol or substance misuse. Paul spoke about the mental health of veterans and how we can all gain healthier coping strategies.

Everyone enjoyed lunch together and opportunities to chat amongst peers about their own struggles and how we support our loved one. A leaflet created by the Foundation was distributed to attendees, on signs to look for in a loved one who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and how to support people struggling.
