FoundationLFC Foundation launches female-focussed training programme
To celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8th March, our Works Employability Team launched a new female focussed training programme.
The aim of the programme is to unlock the potential of young females aspiring to gain further education or employment at LFC and beyond and to help them become confident and competitive when entering the job market. Through interactive sessions, the programme will improve self-esteem and to support young females to become more confident and competitive when entering the world of work and further education. LFC Women’s Gemma Bonner and Leighanne Robe are both ambassadors for the new programme in the hope that their support will inspire and motivate others.
Programme Manager, Danielle Shields said,
‘We felt this programme was needed after looking through our data and seeing that a large proportion of young people attending our employability programmes were male, therefore there is a need to reach out to more females to raise aspirations, and to support and develop them with the skills necessary to prepare them for the world of work.
Our Female Focused Employability Programme is a programme designed to assist young girls with the attributes and confidence to improve their prospects of employment and self-esteem.’
The programme will work with 16–25-year-olds across a minimum 6 sessions. With a focus on key behaviours that align to performance in roles and/or increased chances of employability; the programme aims to support females with aspirations of gaining employment and being able to strive when they enter the job market: Seeking to bridge the gap between who the young females are, and what they are capable of, through experiential and applied learning experiences.
Participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills, behaviours, confidence, and professional network. They will be supported in defining their career goals and ambitions by exploring and understanding the diverse opportunities that exist and the skills/attributes that are required.
The programme will feature both theoretical and applied learning experiences, with young females being placed in ‘real life’ simulated situations.
The Works Female Focused Programme will concentrate on several themes to increase confidence and self-esteem of participants, including:
- Emotional Intelligence
- Resilience
- Role Models & Meet the Professional
- Allyship
- Friendship groups
- Imposter Syndrome
The programme has been piloted currently in a local secondary school and has had some great feedback already from the participants.
“I think it is good to be able to talk to other people who we do not usually talk to”.
“It is fun getting to know other people in the year”.
“I feel more confident talking to people that I didn’t really know”.
“I have enjoyed talking as I am usually quiet and having a bit of a laugh”.
