LFC FoundationChampion of the Month: March 2025
Congratulations to Charlie, Nicky and Rachel who are our Champions of the Month for March 2025!
Charlie, Nicky and Rachel were nominated by Liam Gerrard for their fantastic commitment towards our Refugee & Asylum Seeker Inclusion, Global Works and SEN Schools programmes.
Liam said:‘Wirral Met College deserves this award in recognition of their outstanding and sustained commitment to supporting diverse communities through a wide range of impactful programmes. Over the past two years, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with them, and their dedication has been evident at every stage. Even when faced with external challenges that affected delivery, they remained adaptable and proactive—always prioritising the needs of the individuals they serve.’
Their involvement in SEN Schools Delivery has created vital opportunities for young people with additional needs to participate in structured, inclusive sports sessions. These sessions not only promote physical activity but also help build confidence, communication skills, and social development. Special credit goes to Charlie, whose dedication and coordination have ensured that these sessions run smoothly and consistently.
Beyond this, Wirral Met College has played an essential role in delivering programmes such as Refugee/Asylum Seeker Football and Global Works, an employability initiative for ESOL learners. These programmes have had a significant impact, helping participants from a range of backgrounds to integrate, gain confidence, and develop practical skills that support their long-term goals. Nicky and Rachel have been central to this success, offering ongoing support and building meaningful connections with participants to ensure they feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Their influence doesn’t stop there. Wirral Met has actively promoted our wider opportunities beyond the college environment, including evening programmes like SMF Inclusion and the Refugee/Asylum Seeker Football sessions. Their advocacy has helped raise awareness and increase participation, allowing even more people to benefit from accessible, inclusive activities that promote well-being and community engagement.
Their approach to the Global Works programme has been especially impactful for ESOL learners who often face significant barriers—such as language challenges and low confidence—when trying to enter the job market. Through this initiative, learners have been able to develop essential employability skills, build self-esteem, and take meaningful steps towards their futures. The college’s commitment to engaging students and ensuring strong participation has been a key factor in the programme’s success.
At the LFC Foundation, our mission is to remove barriers and provide inclusive, life-changing opportunities for all. Wirral Met College has not only embraced this vision—they’ve amplified it. Their continued involvement and support have expanded the reach of our programmes and strengthened their outcomes. By championing initiatives like Refugee/Asylum Seeker Football, they’ve helped create safe spaces where individuals can stay active, build friendships, and feel part of a welcoming community.
Similarly, their SEN programme delivery has introduced students to new sports through our multisport sessions, encouraging them to be more physically active in a positive and supportive environment. This has helped break down initial reluctance and opened the door to long-term engagement in sport and physical activity.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue building on the positive foundation we’ve established with Wirral Met College. Their unwavering dedication, resilience, and passion for inclusive community support have made a meaningful difference in so many lives. We look forward to seeing their impact continue to grow and are proud to recognise their contributions through this award.
