In the second edition of a new Liverpoolfc.com series featuring guest blogs from Reds-supporting musicians, singer/songwriter Tom Speight explains his lifelong love for the club…

My love affair with Liverpool started even before I fell in love with music. I was seven years old when my dad gave me the kit sponsored by Carlsberg. I instantly fell in love and became obsessed by the ‘Spice Boys’. My favourite player was and still is John Barnes.

From the moment I was given that kit, I knew Liverpool was going to play a huge part in my life. I decided to move to Liverpool and study music so I could become closer to my team. Some of my fondest memories ever were watching the Reds at Anfield. You simply can’t beat the feeling of hearing 40,000 people chant YNWA and seeing Fowler scoring.

Funnily enough, I think meeting Fowler was possibly the most starstruck I’ve ever been and I’ve met some of my favourite musicians. I remember watching Match of the Day and him scoring a hat-trick in under five minutes.

I soon realised maybe my dream of being a professional footballer was a challenge. So, I chose the next best thing, being a musician. I’ve finally managed after 10 years of releasing music to get my songs on the LFC playlist and I can’t wait to visit Anfield again to see the boys play, and it would be epic to hear a tune of mine blasting out around the stadium.

I’m very excited for this season. It feels like we can do it again! I really believe we can! The team are off to such a strong start. It feels like we’re back on track and it’s going to come together this season. We’ve got such a strong team with a recent injection of fresh, young signings that has really helped. I strongly believe that we will become solid again, especially as we have the real GOAT in Klopp.

We’re so lucky to have such a force of nature and, quite frankly, a gentleman at the helm. It hasn’t always been easy supporting the Reds but I feel sometimes you’ve got to have the bad times to appreciate the good times.

There is something so special about being a Liverpool fan, not only because of its amazing legacy and promising future. It’s down to the people! I lived in Liverpool for six years and it truly felt like home to me. The people are warm, welcoming and it’s like no other place on earth. How can one city produce The Beatles and Gerrard?

I can’t wait to play in Liverpool in November. It will feel like a homecoming show. I’ve had so many great shows in the city, from my student days to playing the O2. I’ve recently released my third album Love & Light! In my humble opinion it’s my best yet. Beautiful Feeling is currently on the LFC playlist. Trick of the Light, the lead single, has become a permanent fixture for Match of the Day! My seven-year-old self is currently losing his mind. Just need to hear Beautiful Feeling in the stands.

In fact, I was wearing the away kit when we recorded the strings for the track, and weirdly enough it was recorded in Liverpool. It’s weird how these things come together.

YNWA!
