Liverpool have bid £3million for Porto winger Christian Atsu.
Atsu has a £10million release clause in his contract but, with just a year left on his contract, Porto know they will lose him for nothing if they do not accept a cut-price deal this summer.
The player is understood to favour a move to Tottenham to work with his former boss Andre Villas Boas.
As yet, however, there has been no approach from the north Londoners, leaving the way clear for Liverpool.
Porto have been trying for the last four months to persuade Atsu to commit to a new deal with a massive release clause.
The player has refused, however, and said earlier this week: "There are times when we have to think about following our dreams and this is the time to follow my dream.
"Since I started playing football I have dreamt to play in the Premier League. I will be sad to leave Porto but if I leave I would want my future to be in England."
