Cologne chief provides update on Hector swoop
The CEO of FC Cologne has denied reports that Liverpool are set to sign Jonas Hector.
German international Hector has been persistently linked with a switch to Anfield, with the Reds known to be in the market for at least one new left-back.
The ECHO understands, however, that the 26-year-old, although scouted by the club during the past 12 months, is not a target they are actively pursuing at this stage. Leicester City teenager Ben Chilwell remains high on their list of priorities as they look to bring in competition for Alberto Moreno.
And speaking over the weekend, Cologne chief executive Jorg Schmadtke poured further cold water on the reports suggesting a £12m move for Hector was imminent.
“There’s nothing in it. There is no question of an offer from Liverpool,” he told Express.de.
“If someone comes up with double [the number in question], then I might answer the phone.
“But I believe that Jonas plays in the new season with us.”
