Liverpool have expressed interest in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud.

The 20-year-old has drawn plenty of attention in his breakthrough season in the Bundesliga contributing four goals and eight assists in 37 appearances.

The Germans are reluctant to lose him with Arsenal closing on teammate Granit Xhaka and West Ham signing fellow midfielder Havard Nordtveit on a free.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has already utilised his Bundesliga background to sign central defender Joël Matip on a free transfer from Schalke.

The former Dortmund boss has also set his sights on a reunion with attacking midfielder Mario Götze from Bayern Munich.

He will be backed by Liverpool's owners but Gladbach believe Dahoud, a Germany U21 international of Syrian descent, would benefit from staying at least one more season.

Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and United have also watched Dahoud this season.

Liverpool have also opened discussions over the proposed transfer of Piotr Zielinski from Udinese.
