Germany left-back: Klopp call would make me think
German international left-back Jonas Hector admits that a call from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could change his mind about staying put at FC Koln.
The 25-year-old who has been linked with a move to the Reds played more games for the reigning World Champions in 2015 and is in line to start this summer’s European Championship finals as their first choice left-back.
National team coach Jogi Low has been impressed with Hector’s progress over the past couple of seasons and he has now been capped 10 times.
While the £12million-rated player whose current contract expires in 2018 insists he is happy at Koln, who like Liverpool sit ninth in their league, he conceded that if a phone call from Klopp is received then he might have to rethink his plans.
Speaking in an interview with Eurosport, when asked about reported interest from the Reds, Hector responded: “You always have to consider whether you are ready to take the next step. But at the moment I am not thinking about it.
“I think what we have to do at FC Koln is enough. I also have with the national team a big tournament ahead of us.”
However, when asked if a call from Klopp could persuade him to change his mind, Hector admitted: “Then I would start to think about it.”
Hector is likely to start against England in Berlin on Saturday evening and is looking forward to Germany’s double-header with the Three Lions and Italy.
He added: “For me, these meetings are good tests against strong teams. I am looking forward to the two matches in Berlin and Munich.”
