Liverpool U18s slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Sunderland on the final day of their Barclays U18 Premier League campaign.
Sunderland secured their place in the play-off stage of the competition with the victory at the Academy of Light.
George Honeyman and James Stinson grabbed the goals for the home side, but it was the Reds who went closest to opening the scoring when Jordan Rossiter shot wide from 25 yards.
Seconds later, Jerome Sinclair turned and drew a fine save from goalkeeper Peter Burke.
However, on 17 minutes Honeyman reacted quickest to smash home a cleverly-worked free-kick and give the Black Cats the lead.
Sunderland then sealed victory in the closing stages as Stinson fired left-footed past Fulton to make it 2-0.
