Jürgen Klopp has confirmed Liverpool are assessing an injury Paul Glatzel sustained during the pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers on Thursday evening.

Having been introduced as a half-time substitute, the 18-year-old forward was withdrawn from the action at Prenton Park on 78 minutes after picking up a knee issue.

Klopp admits the injury is a ‘serious’ one as the Reds wait to discover how long it will rule Glatzel out for.

The boss told Liverpoolfc.com: “Unfortunately Paul Glatzel got seriously injured, which is a shame. He is a wonderful kid, a wonderful player, unbelievable.

“The week we saw him [at Melwood] helped already, so when he is back he will be one of my boys because I really like what I saw.”
