Wembley hero Ward: It's unbelievable!
'Unbelievable' was Danny Ward's description for an historic day at Wembley that saw Huddersfield Town return to the top flight for the first time in four-and-a-half decades.
The goalkeeper, on loan with the Terriers from Liverpool, saved Reading’s fifth penalty in a shootout on Monday after a goalless draw in the Championship play-off final.
Christopher Schindler’s subsequent success from 12 yards sealed promotion to the Premier League for David Wagner’s side and sparked jubilation for Ward, his teammates and the club’s fans.
“Goalkeepers go out as heroes for saving them, but my four heroes are the boys who stuck it in the back of the net,” the Wales international told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Ward, who stopped two penalties in the semi-final too, added: “It was 120 minutes of grit and determination. Huddersfield Town are in the Premier League – it’s unbelievable.”
