Joe Gomez believes the Liverpool squad have a chance to show what they are made of when they take on Chelsea on Tuesday after a week to forget at Anfield.

Successive home defeats to Swansea City, Southampton and Wolves have seen the Reds fall off the pace in the Premier League title race and drop out of both the EFL Cup and FA Cup in just seven days.

But, while Gomez could not hide his disappointment at what has been a difficult period for Jürgen Klopp's men, he is viewing the recent slump as an opportunity.

And the young defender has no doubt that he and his teammates possess the mental fortitude required to show a response when the league leaders visit Merseyside on Tuesday.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "We started the season so well and we've just had a difficult few results recently, but this is where we have to show as a team how strong-minded we are and the character within ourselves.

"We've got all the personalities in the dressing room to do that, including the manager and the coaching staff. We'll bounce back and make it right.

"Sometimes things don't go our way and it's about bouncing back from that.

"We know we've got a lot of quality players in the team and we know that we can get the results, it's just about making it right on the pitch.

"That's what we've got to do, we can't keep our heads down and dwell on a bad result, we've just got to make [it] right."

LFCTV GO: Joe Gomez reflects on defeat to Wolves

While Gomez is keen to see Liverpool overcome their run of poor form against Antonio Conte's side, he has warned against focusing too much on atoning for recent results.

The 19-year-old says composure will be key to the Reds finding their rhythm once more and insisted they will only be hindered in their attempts to get back on track should they try to force things.

"Whenever a result doesn't go your way, all you want is to make it right as quickly as possible," he added.

"We've got the chance to go and do that on Tuesday but at the same time we have to try to keep composure and try not to put too much pressure [on ourselves] - although obviously there is - to get the result.

"We have to try to stay positive and play how we play instead of getting caught up in the difficult time we've had.

"It's about bouncing back in the right way and we've got to try to do that on Tuesday."
