An early goal from Georginio Wijnaldum was the difference as Liverpool beat Manchester City 1-0 at Anfield this evening.
The Reds went ahead in the eighth minute courtesy of Wijnaldum’s powerful downward header from a pinpoint Adam Lallana cross and never relinquished that lead to ensure they finished 2016 with a win.
The Dutchman's second goal for the club also means Jürgen Klopp’s side head into the New Year in second place in the Premier League table.
In a high-tempo, fast-paced game of few chances at either end, Liverpool shaded the first half before standing firm in the face of City pressure after the break to make it four consecutive top-flight victories.
