Sadio Mane has been named on the five-man shortlist for the African Player of the Year award.

The Liverpool winger was included on the quintet of names in contention for the accolade, released by the African Football Confederation (CAF), on Tuesday.

He’s joined by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borrusia Dortmund), Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani (both Leicester City), and Mohamed Salah (Roma).

Mane has scored six goals in 12 appearances for the Reds following his summer transfer from Southampton.

The final shortlist was determined by members of the CAF’s media and technical and development committees, as well as 10 individuals from a 20-person panel.

The winner will be decided by votes from head coaches and technical directors of the CAF’s 54 national associations, plus associate members, Reunion Island and Zanzibar as well as the other 10 members of the panel.

The outcome will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday January 5, 2017 at an event in Abuja, Nigeria.
