Marko Grujic nominated for 2016 Golden Boy award
Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic has been named on the 40-man shortlist for the 2016 Golden Boy award, which recognises the best Under-21 player in European football over the course of each calendar year.
The Serbian's impressive performances for Red Star Belgrade earned him a move to Anfield in January, but he remained with his boyhood club until the end of the 2015-16 campaign to aid their ultimately successful title charge.
He has since made a bright start to his Reds career, scoring three goals in pre-season and producing an encouraging display on his full debut against Derby County in the EFL Cup earlier this month.
The 20-year-old's efforts across 2016 have now been recognised by a panel of journalists comprising representatives from The Times (England), A Bola (Portugal), L'Equipe (France), Bild (Germany), Marca (Spain), Corriere dello Sport-Stadio, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport (Italy).
Grujic is named alongside a handful of other Premier League starlets, including Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi and Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
