Klopp on his Germany return, Augsburg and Matip
Jürgen Klopp addressed the media at the WWK Arena on Wednesday ahead of Liverpool's UEFA Europa League clash with FC Augsburg tomorrow - see a summary of the manager's key points below.
On returning to Germany...
I feel great [to be back], it's just a situation that happened. I didn't actually flee from Germany and I've always felt well here! My last memory from Germany is Oktoberfest, everything was great. The only difference here, it's a full room, just a different language.
On the threat posed by Augsburg...
A lot depends on their selection but they're a really good German team, compact, very physical. They're good, they know what they're doing, and they try to do it really well in the Europa League. It's not as if every single game we play we do so well and get the good results. Yes, in the Bundesliga, some results weren't so good, but everyone wants to get as far as they can in the Europa League and that's the aim of both teams.
On comparisons between the two clubs...
They're different stories. Liverpool have a really big history in England and Europe, you can't really compare it as such. If you go to Asia, South America, South Africa, Liverpool is known and with all respect to Augsburg they're maybe not as known. So, we're both independent clubs and you shouldn't actually look at it like that as a comparison.
On signing Bundesliga players...
[Joel] Matip is a very good player and I didn't just get him just because he comes from the Bundesliga. He's 24 years old, he's experienced, has many Bundesliga games, he wants to develop himself and he'll continue now with a German coach. He's a young lad and we're really happy that we've got him.
On the city of Augsburg...
My cousin lives here, it's a really nice town. I like the south of Germany, it's the lifestyle. I lived in the Black Forest myself for 19 years so I'm used to this environment and feel comfortable here. All I know is that we usually won here. I think Augsburg is cool, I really like it here, everything is very traditional, real, and you can play real football here. What more can I add?
