Legend Garcia comes out of retirement
Former Liverpool star Luis Garcia has cut short his retirement from football to join Central Coast Mariners for the remainder of the A-League season.
The Spaniard initially called time on his career in 2014, when a stint with Indian Super League outfit Atletico Kolkata came to an end.
But, just a week after running out for the Reds' Legends side in Sydney, an appearance that saw him score twice in a 4-0 victory over an Australian Legends XI, Garcia is set to return to the professional game.
The 2005 Champions League winner will now enjoy an extended spell down under after penning a short-term deal with the Mariners.
“I am delighted to be joining a club like the Central Coast Mariners. This is an exciting challenge for me to play in the Hyundai A-League and with such a progressive club like the Mariners,” he said.
“I am really looking forward to being on the Coast, meeting my fellow players, meeting the fans and to entertain them with my style of play.
“One of the things that attracted me to the club was the opportunity to share my experience with a young playing group. I am also looking forward to playing football in one of the most beautiful places in the world.”
