Jürgen Klopp is calling on supporters to help his side again by generating a special Anfield atmosphere on Boxing Day for the clash against Leicester City in the Barclays Premier League as he explained why Liverpool see it as their job to put smiles on fans' faces.

The manager led the way for his team to thank the fans for their backing by saluting the Kop at the end of the 2-2 draw to West Bromwich Albion in the league earlier this month.

Klopp reveals that display of gratitude was a the spur-of-the-moment decision and is urging the crowd on Saturday to get behind his men.

“I never planned it.” the 48-year-old said at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game with The Foxes. “I didn’t think ‘if we draw against West Brom maybe we should do this’ - of course not. We wanted to win that game but we didn’t and that was the situation.

“I like to be close with the fans but it is not a thing from one side. I can’t say ‘come on let’s do this’, you have to build it up. Everybody can see what we do is not the normal thing. We try to do more and that’s what I want to see.

“We try to create situations where everybody in the stadium and around the world who is interested in LFC feels really good and that it’s difficult not to have a smile on their face when they think of LFC. That’s what our first job is.”
