Dejan delighted with 'great week' for Liverpool
Dejan Lovren was delighted to reflect on 'a great week' after Liverpool beat Swansea City 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday to make it three wins in a row.
Having claimed victory at Manchester City and over Bordeaux, a James Milner penalty in the second half was enough to down the Swans and move the Reds up to sixth.
On an afternoon of positives, Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge made their return from injury while Lovren and the defence chalked up a clean sheet.
The weather conditions had added to the challenge for Jürgen Klopp’s team, who nevertheless preserved their slender advantage to maintain their positive recent form.
Lovren told Liverpoolfc.com: “It was a tough game, especially playing against the wind. It wasn’t so easy but at the end the most important thing is that we got the three points.
“We’re moving higher in the table. It was a great week for us – winning against Manchester City, Bordeaux and now this one.
“We just need to keep working hard and to be patient. We expected a tough game against an opponent having problems. It was a deserved win.
“We showed our quality in defence and up front also. The most important thing is to keep the winning mentality. We’re doing a great job all together and we can be proud.”
Next up for Liverpool is a trip to the south coast to face Southampton in a Capital One Cup quarter-final on Wednesday evening.
The tie means a return to his former club for Lovren, who has impressed in central defence since coming back into the side after the international break.
“It’s always good to have a clean sheet and the three points,” he added.
“We’re moving forward to Southampton. It will be a tough game – we know that Southampton are a good team. But I think we’re in a good mood and we just need to continue like that.”
