Klopp: Gerrard can train at Melwood if he wants to
Jürgen Klopp has revealed he had an enjoyable meeting with Steven Gerrard this week – and reiterated the former Liverpool captain is free to use Melwood's facilities to keep himself in shape during his close-season break from LA Galaxy.
The 35-year-old returned to his home city earlier this month following the conclusion of the Major League Soccer campaign.
Quizzed about his meeting with Gerrard and specifically whether the Reds legend would soon be training at Melwood, Klopp told a press conference: “No, he is on holiday and that’s good. He’s not had that much holiday since he left Liverpool and went to LA, so now he is enjoying his holiday.
“It was good. He is a really, really good person. I liked it and enjoyed the time we spent together.
“We spoke about many things, but nothing is happening. He doesn’t want to play next week, he doesn’t want to train next week – he is on holiday. That’s what I can say.
“If he does want to train [here] then of course he can, there’s no question. He can use Melwood as he did for about 500 years, so there’s no problem!
“Then he will go back to LA and train and play there.”
