LFC kick off Aintree races
Liverpool FC were out in force at Aintree on Thursday morning to showcase their outstanding work in the community.
With the Grand National set to hit the city on Saturday and Liverpool taking on Everton at Wembley this weekend is a very proud one for the whole of Merseyside.
Liverpool's community team were at Aintree for Liverpool Day and they gave some fantastic demonstrations of the work the LFC Foundation delivers to the local community.
Kop legends David Fairclough and Alan Kennedy helped out the team as they met supporters and took part in the football coaching sessions.
The Carling Cup took pride of place at Aintree as supporters gathered in their droves to have their photos taken with the trophy that Steven Gerrard lifted at Wembley in February.
The Liverpool Ambassadors were also present as 15 youngsters from the city handed out important information to visitors about the Aintree races, Liverpool FC and the best places in town to visit.
Disability Liaison Officer Colin McCall, said: "We were very grateful for the opportunity to show the public what we do day in, day out in the community.
"We had a football assault course at the Equestrian Centre and we had 15 of our Ambassadors here giving out information about Aintree racecourse, on Liverpool FC and the city itself for tourists over here.
"It's important to tell people what we do. We coach in over 20 schools every single week, we have coaching sessions every night of the week, both for disabled and non disabled footballers."
The Liverpool FC Ladies team were present to take part in the disability session with the LFC legends on the parade ring, and skipper Vicky Jones added: "It was great for the ladies team to come along to Aintree and represent Liverpool FC.
"We did a disability awareness session which included visually impaired and hearing impaired.
Kop hero David Fairclough added: "It's fantastic the work the club does and it's important that people are aware that Liverpool FC are out in the community.
"They work with children, people with disabilities and various ethnic groups as this has been a great opportunity to showcase that on the first day of the Aintree races.
"It has been a great day, so many people have been visiting us and I've really enjoyed being a part of it."
Alan Kennedy, who netted winning goals in two European Cup finals for the Reds, said: "I've enjoyed the coaching sessions with the kids and to be fair they are much better than me, and certainly quicker than me!
"The Liverpool FC Ladies team were a real credit to the club and all of the coaches do a wonderful job behind the scenes. They are all unsung heroes and do fantastic work for the football club in the community."
