It was a frustrating day for Liverpool U18s as their unbeaten run came to an end after a 3-1 defeat away at Newcastle United on Saturday.

Going into the game on the back of a 14 game unbeaten run, Neil Critchley's side suffered their first defeat since August 29.

Ovie Ejaria fired the young Reds in front but defensive mistakes allowed the home side to storm back and take the three points.

Reflecting on the game, Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was a disappointing day for us and very frustrating because we created a lot of chances but just weren't clinical enough.

"Ovie scored a good goal but a minute later we made a mistake and they equalised.

"In the second half we had two great chances but didn't take them and then conceded from another mistake.

"The lads gave it everything and I can't fault their attitude but we must learn our mistakes from this game.

"On the positive side Brooks Lennon made his first start for us and did well and it was great to give Yan Dhanda 20 minutes after his injury.

"The boys deserve great credit for the run we have been on, and now we get ready for Christmas, go again and pick ourselves up and try to start another good run."
